ECM (Extracellular Matrix) proteins have many functions beyond providing structural support. We will work on ECM proteins in the bone marrow microenvironment, aiming to characterize and discover new growth factor activities from ECM proteins in the context of stem cell functions. In particular, we are interested in finding novel ECM proteins as regulators of hematopoietic stem cells and skeletal stem cells. These findings will hopefully have therapeutic potentials in regenerative medicine, in the context of blood and bone diseases.
